Indian Satyarup Siddhanta scales world's highest volcano

·        Satyarup Siddhanta has become the 2nd Indian mountaineer after Malli Mastan Babu to climb Mt Ojos del Salado, the highest active volcano in the world.

·        Satyarup is also set to be the 1st Indian to climb Mt Sidley, the highest volcano of Antarctica.

India climbs 24 spots in global innovation ranking since Modi’s arrival in 2014-15

·        In a boost to Modi government, India jumped three places to reach 57th spot on the Global Innovation Index (GII) rankings.

·        Switzerland retained its number-one spot in the index.

·        Rounding out the GII 2018 top 10 are: the Netherlands, Sweden, the UK, Singapore, the US, Finland, Denmark, Germany and Ireland. China’s ranks at number 17th on the list.

·        The Global Innovation Index (GII) rankings, published annually by Cornell University, INSEAD and the UN World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) and GII Knowledge Partners.

·        India ranked 105th on IT access and 110th on IT use.

Net neutrality gets the okay from Telecom Commission

·        In a move that will ensure open and free Internet in India, the government has approved the principle of Net neutrality. This means that telecom and Internet service providers must treat all data on the Internet equally, and not discriminate or charge differently by user, content, site, platform, or application.

India, Pakistan to be part of anti-terror SCO drill in Russia

·        Militaries of India and Pakistan will be part of a mega anti-terror drill in Russia next month which is being organised by the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) with an aim to expand cooperation among the member countries to deal with terrorism and extremism.

Rajya Sabha passes amendments to anti-corruption law

·        In a move aimed at providing relief to bankers and helping them take business decisions without fear, the Rajya Sabha passed the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2013.

·         According to the amendments, a police officer will now have to take prior permission from appropriate authorities while pursuing cases. Further, bankers cannot be pulled under the corruption law unless they have accumulated assets disproportionate to their.

RBI directs banks to put purchaser’s name on demand drafts

·        In order to address the concerns arising out of the anonymity and to prevent money laundering, the Reserve Bank has now made it compulsory to incorporate the purchaser’s name on the face of demand draft, pay order, banker’s cheques and other instruments.

·        This directive will come into effect from 15th of September this year.

RBI to issue new Rs 100 note with special Gujarat connection

·        After giving Rs 500, Rs 50 denomination notes a makeover, the Reserve Bank of India has come up with an all-new Rs 100 denomination notes.

·        The hundred rupee note will come in lavender colour and bear a motif of “RANI KI VAV” on the reverse, depicting the country's cultural heritage.

·        The colour of the thread in the new 100 rupee note changes from green to blue when the note is tilted. It also bears Swachh Bharat logo with slogan on the reverse.

·        Rani Ki Vav is an intricately constructed stepwell situated in the town of Patan in Gujarat. It is located on the banks of Saraswati River.

·        The dimension of the banknote will be 66 mm and 142 mm.

·        Repco Micro Finance Ltd, a non-banking finance company promoted by Repco Bank, received Nabard 2018 award for its service to self-help group (SHG) linkage in Tamil Nadu for the fiscal year 2017-18.

RBI to issue new 100 banknote

·        The Reserve Bank of India, said it will shortly issue ₹100 denomination banknotes with lavender as the base colour in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) series.

·        The new denomination has the motif of ‘Rani Ki Vav’ (the queen’s stepwell located at Patan, Gujarat) on the reverse, depicting the country’s cultural heritage.

·        The dimension of the banknote will be 66 mm×142 mm.
