Affiliation of INS Vikramaditya with the Bihar Regiment

Pension regulator relaxes withdrawal norms under NPS

·        Relaxing norms, PFRDA has permitted partial withdrawal under the National Pension System (NPS) for purchase of residential premises, treatment of critical illness, higher education and marriage of children.

·        "A subscriber on the date of submission of the withdrawal form, shall be permitted to withdraw not exceeding 25% of the contributions made by such subscriber to his individual pension account" for specified purposes.

ONGC acquires 51.11% stake in HPCL for 36,915cr

·        After some minor hiccups on the issue of valuation, public sector exploration giant ONGC has got the consent for acquiring controlling stake in fellow PSU Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL).

Navy's All-Woman Crew aboard INSV Tarini Crosses Cape Horn, Roughest Stretch of water

·        It was termed as "historic" when an all-woman Indian Navy team set sail for one of the toughest feats -- a global circumnavigation trip.

·        Led by Lieutenant Commander Vartika Joshi, the five-leg expedition is titled 'Navika Sagar Parikrama'.

The Inclusive Development Index 2018

·        The Inclusive Development Index (IDI) is an annual assessment of 103 countries’ economic performance that measures how countries perform on 11 dimensions of economic progress in addition to GDP.

·        India ranked at the 62nd place among emerging economies on an Inclusive Development Index, much below China's 26th position and Pakistan's 47th.

·        Among advanced economies, Norway is followed by Ireland, Luxembourg, Switzerland and Denmark in the top five.

Malta's Valletta becomes Europe's Capital of Culture

·        About one fifth of Malta's 450,000-strong population was in the streets of the capital as Valletta was officially inaugurated as the European City of Culture.

President approves disqualification of 20 AAP MLAs

·        20 AAP MLAs, accused of holding the 'office of profit', were disqualified from the Delhi Assembly after President Ram Nath Kovind approved the Election Commission of India's (ECI) recommendation in the matter.

·        Initially, the petition was directed at 21 MLAs, but one MLA, named Jarnail Singh, resigned to contest in the Punjab elections, last year.

PwC survey: India 5th most attractive market for global CEOs in 2018

·        India will be the 5th most attractive market for global industries in 2018, a CEO Optimism survey conducted by international consultancy PwC says.

·        It's almost twice the level of last year (29%) and the largest ever increase since PwC began asking about global growth in 2012.

·        This year, the US reinforces its lead on China. Germany remains in 3rd place, followed by the UK in 4th place, while India overtakes Japan as the fifth most attractive market in 2018.

India to host 16th International Energy Forum Meet

Quota for acid attack survivors, people with disability

·        People with autism, mental illnesses, intellectual disability and victims of acid attacks will now get quota in central government jobs.

·        In case of direct recruitment, 4% of the total number of vacancies, up from the existing 3%, in groups A, B and C shall be reserved for people with benchmark disabilities.

·        Benchmark disability means a person with not less than 40% of a specified disability.

·        1% posts each shall be also reserved for people suffering from autism, intellectual disability, specific learning disability and mental illness.

·        Total wealth refers to the private wealth held by all the individuals living in each country/city.

India's crude steel production rises 6.2% to 101.4 MT in 2017

·        India's crude steel production grew by 6.2% to 101.4 million tonnes (MT) in 2017 compared to 95.5 MT in the previous year- report by World Steel Association.

·        China remained the world leader by producing 831.7 MT in 2017, up 5.7% from 786.9 MT in the year-ago period.

India 6th wealthiest country with $8,230 billion

·        Notwithstanding the income inequality, India has made it to the sixth spot with total wealth of $8,230 billion, in a list of top 10 wealthiest nations, according to a report by New World Wealth.

·        India's wealth took a sharp jump of almost 25% in 2017 as compared to 2016 when its net wealth was around $6,584 billion.

·        Rated as best performing market globally, India has 3.3 lakh HNWIs (high-net-worth individuals), 9th highest in the world, while the country has 20,730 multi-millionaires, which is 7th largest.

·        Overall, the US has retained the 1st spot with the total wealth of $64,584 billion in 2017, followed by China and Japan.

India joins Ashgabat agreement

·        India has joined the Ashgabat agreement, which envisages setting up of an international transport and transit corridor linking central Asia with the Persian Gulf to significantly ramp up trade and investment.

·        Besides Turkmenistan, the other founding members of the agreement are Iran, Oman and Uzbekistan and these countries had signed the pact on April 25, 2011.

IMF sees India GDP growth at 7.4% in 2018

IOB, NHB tie up for rural housing push
